The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, the IAMAW, is a large union that is active in more than 200 basic industries as defined by the US Department of Labor. It maintains one or more agreements with almost every major employer in the USA and Canada.

Goals of the IAMAW include: raising wage rates to correspond with the rising costs of living, ensuring equal pay for equal work regardless of sex, race, or national origin, providing a safe and healthy workplace, and securing benefits such as paid sick leave, medical coverage, and retirement/pension funds.

Local Lodge 933 represents the bargaining unit production and Maintenance employees working at all Raytheon sites in Pima County Arizona. We have been proud members of the Tucson community since our founding in 1952. Our history of fighting for fairness to working families is one of which we are very proud. This web site supports the members of the Local Lodge 933 Tucson, Arizona better known as the Old Pueblo.

The IAM is proud of its history of community service. Our involvement with United Way, Habitat for Humanity, the Red Cross, and many other organizations only furthers exemplifies our commitment to help in the neighborhoods where we live.

History of this Union

In the early 1950’s the workers at Hughes Aircraft  wanted to unionize. There were several Unions that wanted to represent the workers.  The workers settled on The International Association of Machinist (IAM) in 1952. It is rumored that Howard Hughes suggested the IAM because of it’s professional reputation.

The IAM and Hughes signed their first agreement in 1953.  Early agreements were set for a one year duration in those days.

The IAM has been representing the Aerospace workers in Tucson for 70 years!

From Hughes through to Raytheon Technologies we have remained the consistent body of this plantsite.

As a Union, we have had to withhold our labor to get fair contracts a few times:

Some one week strikes in the 60’s

Strikes in 1974 and 1978

The latest strike was in 2006 for 74 days
